Editor's review
ReaJPEG is an image converter, converts images from most commonly used graphic formats to JPEG. Conversion of images to JPEG can be one by one or as a batch job.
Pros: RealJPEG uses Simple and intuitive interface, easy to understand. Basic function is conversion to JPEG of course, but there are extensive edit facilities available. Actual conversion can be done individually, when it is simply saving the photo as jpg. Conversion from 35 odd formats, including the main ones like BMP, TIFF, PNG, TGA, etc, are provided.
A whole range of effects can be applied to the photos before conversion. These are grouped as Resize, Watermark, Auto contrast, Solarize, disturbance and red eye.
Resize group includes resize, crop, rotate and flip as well as projective and anti projective effects. Straighten horizon also would be a useful effect. Watermark group includes borders and extended borders too. Auto-contrast includes color, brightness enhancements besides actual contrast enhancement. Solarize and disturbance effects create those surreal effects that help create great pictures quite often. Red eye of course is the run of the mill red eye removal. You could adjust the shade of red eye you want it to reduce to. Nested undo and redo help experiment with the effects. That could be done on pictures only one by one however.
Cons: Grouping of some of the effects under those 5 or 6 main categories is not often very logical. You may need to browse through to find the right one. For example you’d least expect borders to be in the watermark group.
Batch operation is only for the format conversion. It would have been nice to have a process definition, steps of effects the photos should go through, and then conversion in a batch. Correcting the images one by one can get to be tedious.
Overall: A nice editor along with easy to use interface gives the package quite a bit of effectiveness. Overall 4 star performance.
